Axle Box Pattern Made for The Unknown Warrior - March 2011
A new driving wheel axle box pattern has been completed by master pattern maker Eddie Mocroft at the Boro Foundry. This has enabled the order for the axle box castings to be placed with Johnson Porter of Stourbridge, who will cast six axle boxes from the new pattern. The stretcher patterns are also being made by Eddie Mocroft, after CAD draughtsman Kevin West completed four of the five stretcher drawings. These will all be cast before being machined and taken to the Llangollen Works for fitting between the frames of ‘The Unknown Warrior'. The drawing for the fifth stretcher is currently being produced, and a pattern for this will then be ordered. |
