Driving Wheelsets
The first 6'9" diameter driving wheel for 'The Unkown Warrior' was cast during September 2010 at the Boro Foundry, Lye, in the West Midlands. The remaining five driving wheels are due to be cast over the next few months. They will then be taken to the South Devon Railway where tyres, crank pins, axles and a crank axle will be fitted.
The LMS-Patriot Project acknowledges Bob Meanley's assistance, CME Tyseley at Locomotive Works in making the pattern from Jubilee 45699 'Galatea' available for 'The Unknown Warrior'.
The LMS-Patriot Project also acknowledges the support of Heritage Railway Magazine readers and LMS-Patriot Project Members who riased over £60,000 for the six new driving wheels.
