The Locomotive
Frames
Work is progressing on new frame drawings that are being redrawn from original LMS drawings dating from the 1930s which were originally produced at the Drawing Office of Derby Locomotive Works. The drawings will be used when new steel is cut by Corus Steel for the two plates that will form the main frames. It is anticipated that the steel for the frames will be ordered in 2008.
Once cut, the frame plates will require drilling. This will be undertaken at a specialist engineering company.
Frame stretchers will be produced from polystyrene patterns and plans are already in place with a pattern maker and a foundry to produce these. Once ordered, assembly is due to begin at the Llangollen Railway Works, by the team led by Dave Owen, CME at Llangollen.
