LMS-Patriot Project Launches Frames Appeal at Llangollen Gala - May 2008
The LMS-Patriot Project, the Company behind the first LMS new build project, has announced an appeal for £48,000 to build the frames for 45551 'The Unknown Warrior'. The frames will be the first major component that are ordered for the Patriot and will be assembled at the Llangollen Railway works by the team led by Dave Owen, CME of Llangollen Railway Engineering.
The LMS-Patriot Company is appealing for single donations or regular monthly contributions to the project. A Limited Company has been formed and the Project now has charitable status. The Frames Appeal is being supported by Steam Railway magazine.
** A form can be downloaded from: [click link] http://www.lms-patriot.org.uk/donations.pdf **
If the Gift Aid section of the form is filled in, all donations from UK taxpayers will qualify for Gift Aid and extra funds will be raised for the project.
David Bradshaw, Project Leader said, "This is the first LMS new build project and one which deserves the support of true LMS enthusiasts around the country. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the one that everybody wants to see and I urge all LMS supporters to support the Project so we can make it happen".
The LMS-Patriot Project was officially launched at the Llangollen Railway on 19th April during the hugely successful LMS-themed Patriot gala which included visiting Stanier Mogul number 42968, Fowler 4F number 44422 and the Llangollen based Black 5 number 44806. A full size replica nameplate 'The Unknown Warrior' was presented by Mr. John Buxton , Managing Director of Cambrian Transport Ltd. to competition winner Mr. Kevin Finnerty who suggested the name. Mr. Buxton also kindly sponsored the two brass nameplates that will eventually be carried by the locomotive which were on display at the gala.
The LMS-Patriot Project intends to keep alive the tradition of war memorial engines by creating a permanent memorial to all those courageous men and women who fought and died in the First World War and subsequent wars including the present-day Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. The locomotive 'The Unknown Warrior' follows on from the LNWR Claughton war memorial engine and later LMS Patriot number 5500, after which the class took their name.
We look forward to your support of this exciting new LMS new build project.
