The LMS-Patriot Project

Jubilee Parts Made Available for The Unknown Warrior - May 2011

The LMS-Patriot Project has been offered spare motion parts from scrapped 'Jubilees' 45562 'Alberta’ and 45697 'Achilles'. The parts will be acquired if sufficient funds can be raised to purchase them.

The motion parts have been in storage since the two ‘Jubilees’ were scrapped in the 1960s, and have been made available from 'Jubilee' owners including 7029 Clun Castle Ltd, owners of 5593 'Kolhapur' at Tyseley Loco Works.

The spare parts available include one outside connecting rod, a set of coupling rods, outside radius rods, combination levers, crossheads, drop links and union links. These parts are identical to 'Patriot' motion parts and will save the Project a considerable amount of money compared to making entirely new parts. However, one new outside, and one inside con rod will still need to be manufactured from new.

The LMS-Patriot Project needs to raise around £50,000 to acquire and refurbish these motion parts.

David Bradshaw, Chairman of the LMS-Patriot Project said, "It’s not every day that spare ‘Jubilee’ motion becomes available. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire further parts for ‘The Unknown Warrior’ if we can raise sufficient funds. The progress of ‘The Unknown Warrior’ continues at a rapid pace and I urge all enthusiasts to support our fundraising appeal so we can continue the excellent progress and have ‘The Unknown Warrior’ completed for 2018”.

The LMS-Patriot Project would like to thank Bob and Alistair Meanley and Michael Whitehouse at Tyseley Loco Works, for their assistance in making some of the 'Jubilee' motion available.
