Middle Cylinder Cast for 'The Unknown Warrior'

The middle cylinder for 'The Unknown Warrior' was 'knocked out' on the 29th May at the Coupe Foundry in Preston. The polystyrene pattern has cost around £2300 - a fraction of the cost of a traditonal wooden pattern

BBC Radio Lancashire was there to witness this landmark occasion - the first major casting to be made for a standard gauge steam locomotive from a polystyrene pattern. David Bradshaw, LMS-Patriot Project Chairman; Kevin West, Design Engineer and Jordan Leeds, Volunteer Coordinator were interviewed during the day for two separate radio broadcasts.

News of the cylinder casting gained coverage in the Lancashire Evening Post. Click here to see their article.
