The Unknown Warrior makes National Memorial Arboretum visit

The Unknown Warrior made its first public appearance away from its Llangollen construction base when the partially completed locomotive visited the National Memorial Arboretum on Thursday 21st November. The new Patriot was en route to the NEC for the Warley Model Railway Exhibition and stopped by the National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield, in Staffordshire.

Remembrance Weekend Steam Loco - The Unknown Warrior

'The Unknown Warrior' steam locomotive was decorated with poppies for Remembrance Weekend. This was seen by visitors as part of the Remembrance weekend events at the Llangollen Railway. 'The Unknown Warrior' is a new steam locomotive that is being built that is dedicated to the fallen from all conflicts and has been endorsed by The Royal British Legion as the new National Memorial Engine.

Patriot Nameplate Display for Warley National Model Railway Exhibition

The LMS-Patriot Project has gathered together around 20 original Patriot nameplates that will be displayed at the Warley National Model Railway exhibition on Saturday 23rd November. The nameplates have been loaned from private collections for one day only, and will be displayed next to 'The Unknown Warrior' locomotive at the NEC.

National Memorial Arboretum Visit

The LMS-Patriot Company, the charitable new build steam locomotive project which is building the Royal British Legion Endorsed National Memorial Engine, 'The Unknown Warrior', will be displaying the partially completed engine at the National Memorial Arboretum between 12-3pm on 21st November 2013.

Warley National Model Railway Exhibition

New Painting of 'The Unknown Warrior' by Railway Artist Colin Wright

Derbyshire artist Colin Wright has produced his second painting of LMS Patriot 'The Unknown Warrior'. The superb oil colour painting depicts the artist's impression of Crewe North Shed in May 1934. The original Patriot Class: 5551(unnamed) was out shopped in May 1934, The original Claughton LNWR Memorial Engine "1914 ( LMS 5964) Patriot" was withdrawn in July 1934 and the last Jumbo "25001 Snowdon" was withdrawn in October 1934.

Volunteers Help Paint 'The Unknown Warrior'

LMS-Patriot Project members and volunteers have been preparing and painting the frames and driving wheels at Llangollen and Tyseley Works respectively.
During October and November volunteers have been working to needlegun, prime and undercoat the frames.

Engineering update - October 2013

The two outside motion brackets and boiler support brackets have now been cast and have been machined. The cab has been ordered from R.D. Moore's at Coalville for delivery at the end of October. The driving wheels have had all the tyres turned at Tyseley Locomotive Works, where work on machining the driving wheel axleboxes has been completed. These will be taken to the Llangollen Railway Works to be fitted to the frames. The rolling chassis with cab and smokebox will be exhibited at the National Memorial Arboretum and the Warley National Model Railway exhibition during November.

Events Update - September 2013

September has been an extremely busy month for our dedicated Sales Team. As many of you will have seen, we took the sales stand to the Barry at War Weekend, Llangollen Autumn Gala, Telford O Gauge Exhibition, Pontypool & Blaenavon Gala, Nene Valley Railway Gala, SVR Autumn Gala, GCR Gala, NRM Shildon, and Barrow Hill Doncaster weekend. We have signed up many new Members and Donors at these events, and with the excellent response we have received from our Steam Railway appeal during August, we are rapidly approaching our 1000th linear member!
